Installing
Installing
JourneyMap can be found on CurseForge and Modrinth. These are the only legitimate places to download it from - if you see it on another website then please avoid downloading it from there. Copies of JourneyMap obtained from unofficial sources may be old, broken or contain viruses, and they break our license.
Requirements
JourneyMap 6.0 is released for two Minecraft lines. Download the file that matches your Minecraft version and mod loader, and make sure you have the right version of Java installed.
| Minecraft version | Java | Mod loaders |
|---|---|---|
| 1.21.1 | Java 21 | Fabric, NeoForge, Forge |
| 26.1 | Java 25 | Fabric, NeoForge, Forge |
If you do not have the right version of Java, you can download a copy from the Adoptium website.
Which loader?
JourneyMap is built for Fabric, NeoForge, and Forge. Pick whichever loader the rest of your modpack uses - JourneyMap does not require a specific one. The CurseForge and Modrinth pages list a separate file for each loader.
Video Guide
If you prefer a video guide, the video below walks through installing a mod loader and mods for the official Minecraft launcher. It uses an older version of Minecraft as its example, but the process is the same on current versions.

Textual Guide
If you prefer a more complete guide you can read and follow along with at your own pace, then you can follow these instructions:
-
Decide how you're going to work with Minecraft. Some options include (from easiest to hardest):
We recommend Prism Launcher for ease of use, but any launcher will work just fine.
-
Ensure that you have the right version of Java installed for your Minecraft version (see the table above). If not, you can download a copy from the Adoptium website.
-
Install your mod loader. Use Fabric, NeoForge, or Forge - whichever your modpack uses. You can check the changelog for the version of JourneyMap you're downloading to see which loader version we built and tested against.
- If you're using the official Minecraft launcher, run the installer for your chosen loader and select the version of Minecraft you want.
- If you're using Prism Launcher, create a new instance for the Minecraft version you wish to use, edit that instance, select Version on the left, and add your chosen mod loader.
- If you're using the CurseForge Launcher, click on Mods at the top, select Minecraft, and create a new profile with the version of Minecraft and loader you want.
-
Download JourneyMap from CurseForge or Modrinth, choosing the file for your Minecraft version and mod loader.
- If you're using the CurseForge Launcher, you can click the Install button next to the version you'd like to use and it will be installed for you. Otherwise, click the download button and wait for the JAR to finish downloading.
- If you're using Prism Launcher, edit the instance you're using, select Mods on the left, and drag-and-drop the JAR you downloaded into the list on the right.
- If you're using the official Minecraft launcher, find the
modsfolder for your modded profile and copy the JAR you downloaded into it.
If no download is available for your version of Minecraft, then we haven't released one yet! Please have patience - JourneyMap is a large, complicated mod and it takes a long time for us to port it to new versions of Minecraft.
-
That's everything, you're done - launch the game and JourneyMap should be available!
Webmap
The Webmap, which lets you view your map in a web browser, used to be built into JourneyMap. As of JourneyMap 6.0 it is a separate addon mod. If you want it, install it alongside JourneyMap - see Webmap > Installing.
